Each material is chosen for the part it plays underground. The HDPE structure does not rust and needs no protective coating, so it holds up in the wet, humid conditions common in mines. The fibre-reinforced plastic escape ladder is lightweight and corrosion-resistant, and stainless steel is used for the fixings and fittings that hold the system together. Together they avoid much of the rust and coating maintenance associated with corrosion-prone materials.
Because the components resist corrosion rather than relying on a coating that wears over time, the system is developed for life-of-mine service. It is designed to keep performing through years of underground use, with inspection and upkeep carried out in accordance with the product guidance and your site requirements.

Flat-pack construction allows hundreds of metres of escapeway to be packed into a shipping container, delivering substantial freight savings compared with transporting assembled sections.
